She’s young, she’s fearless, and she’s making a lot of noise on the Brooklyn indie rock scene —Amalie Bruun is a Danish singer and songwriter who should be on your radar. Influenced by music from the 90s among other classic artists, Bruun’s style can best be described as new wave meets post-punk. She’s been singing since before she could speak and writing music since her grade school days (her first love song at the age of 5 for a class crush). She’s the daughter of a rocker dad and growing up in a musical household propelled her in that direction whether she was aware of it or not.
Now, with a solo release on its way and a full tour with her band Ex-Cops in the works, she is poised to be a bona fide original. We were lucky enough to spend a few days with Amalie where she rehearsed with her band, worked on her record and kicked off her US tour. Watch the video to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse.
"…everyone needs to be innovative and that can’t be bad for art.”
I grew up in Denmark in a forest and I think the contrast between how I grew up is exciting and always creates all these songs in my head.
