The famed electrofunk duo from Montreal is known to sell out concerts all over the world and, soon enough, fans will be dancing to a brand-new playlist. Last month they announced their fourth album, White Women, slated to debut next year. “We’ve been working on it for almost two years, and we’re putting the finishing touches on the record,” says Chromeo. “It’s very exciting for us.” While the release date is still TBD (“definitely by Christmas 2014!”, Chromeo fans can visit some of the band’s most memorable places to perform. In an exclusive interview, they told us their five favorite cities in the world for getting down and spreading the Chromeo love.
“For a long time, LA was the first place where we would sell the most tickets. The first people to catch on were on the West Coast.”
“In London we always had a cool response and we developed a loyal fan base.”
We’ve played here so many times over the years, and we always have a really strong connection with an LA fan base. For a long time, LA was the first place where we would sell the most tickets. The first people to catch on were on the West Coast, including San Francisco and Vancouver.
Because we live there, and on our last tour we had an amazing finale tour in NYC. We live in Brooklyn, so we hang out in Williamsburg all the time. And downtown. We don’t think we’ve ever been north of fourteenth street ever.
Montreal is our hometown. One of our favorite moments is closing out the Jazz Fest with 150,000 people. In the heart of downtown was our whole family and everyone we’ve ever interacted with our whole lives. It was the biggest crowd we’ve ever played for before, so it was a significant moment.
London has always been very cool. London was one of the first places to catch on. The most fun thing about London is the small 50-capacity shows where we have a lot of fun. We were just coming up when we first played, and not a lot of places would understand our music or get the references but in London we always had a cool response and we developed a loyal fan base. We’ve done countless shows there. We can’t wait until next year when we really get on the road.
We just went to Moscow a few months ago. It was the first time we had a private show. We seriously had the time of our lives out there, and it would definitely be cool to go back.
